First blog post on our brand new website and I am so unbelievably excited!!
Guess I should start off my introducing myself! I’m Shayla! I am the owner and lead stylist of Rose Quartz Makeup Services, and I absolutely LOVE my job!
Growing up I was never huge into makeup.. I remember my sister going and getting a professional makeover at MAC for her 16th birthday and seeing the pile of makeup she brought home sparked my interest – but I never got into it more than just looking (and occasionally using some of her MAC Face and Body foundation 😉 ) It was not until after I graduated high school, and dropped the college course I was taking, until I found out my passion was with makeup. (Great things take time right?)
I did some research and finally enrolled at the well-known Blanche Macdonald Makeup school in Vancouver for the full 11 month diploma program. From then on, I spent my days learning the ins and outs of bridal makeup, beauty makeup, prosthetic makeup, airbrushing and so much more. It was a TON of information to take in in less than a year, but I am so glad I did it.
After graduating from Blanche Macdonald in April of 2009, I went on to assist with music videos, photo shoots and any other exciting makeup related things that came my way, which included the chance to work at Sephora. While at Sephora, I had the opportunity to work with so many women and fine tune my makeup skills to perfect what I do. I also learned even more than I thought I could – they always have brand reps coming in and telling you all about the latest and greatest products and you can’t help but learn something new every single day. (Cheesy – but true.) I do have to credit and thank Sephora for increasing my knowledge about makeup and skincare – there are hundreds of foundations out in the world and thanks to them I could tell you about every single one. (It would take some time, but I could do it!)
While at Sephora, I became extremely interested in the bridal makeup & hair industry. I joined a ton of wedding groups on Facebook, and every time someone asked about a makeup artist – I would comment and hopefully get booked (Ladies and gents- if you are a new artist and looking to get into the industry – this is one of the best ways to put yourself out there!) In the past 4 years, I myself have probably done over 100 weddings. I can’t tell you enough about how much I truly love this part of my job. The experience of being with a woman and her friends who put their trust in you on the most important day of their lives is something I will never take for granted. I am so incredibly thankful that I get to do this for a living!
My one woman show, soon turned into a team effort. I started booking so many weddings, and needed some help. Our team now consists of some absolutely unreal makeup artists and hair stylists who share the same passion I have and we go into every single event with such a positive attitude of what will come our way, and making sure every single client is happy.
At Rose Quartz Makeup Services, our goal is to have every single client who sits in our chair feel as though they are working with one of their best friends. We will provide beautiful makeup that will last all day and emphasize your natural beauty.
